Do you have questions about using email as a sales channel alongside your podcast?
Good, you should.
I don't have all the answers, but I've got a fair few.
Why email?
You need email because you need a funnel for your sales, not just a mouthpiece.
If you’re buying a car, you’re probably not going to sign on the dotted line after hearing just a minute of the sales rep’s spiel, even if you’re secretly pretty interested in that sporty little hatchback.
You want time to think about it, to get to know the car, to see how it would fit into your life and how your life would fit into it. Emails are the place to have that conversation with your audience.
Without it, you're giving that place over to someone else who's already got that conversation started.
Why not social media?
If you already have a strong social media following and you enjoy being active on there, your business doesn't have to have an email list.
But if you have neither and are wondering which way to go, or you’re on social media but it’s not working out, try email. It’s superior in every way. Firstly, with email, you own the platform. You can talk directly to your followers without an algorithm deciding how important it is that they hear you. The algorithms are getting more restrive every year to clamp down on organic growth, so what your audience gets from you now is possibly the most they'll ever see from you.
Secondly, your email subscribers are more invested in you than your social media followers are. By opting into your emails, they told you out loud that they want to hear from you, which is a much bigger commitment than following you on Instagram. It's the difference between inviting someone over to your house versus telling them that you should totally hang out sometime.
Lastly, did I mention that email has the best ROI of any marketing channel? It does.
How do you know that email marketing is right for me and for my audience?
I can’t tell you that for sure, but I can give you some indicators to look out for. If you’re the kind of creator who values having a personal connection with your audience, email is probably right for you.
If you care about the message more than the visuals, email is probably right for you.
If you have a high-ticket offer but are struggling to sell it on social media, email is probably right for you.
If your audience prefers your long-form content and asks you detailed questions about your go-to topics, email is probably right for them.
How will I get people to sign up for my email list?
There are a number of ways to do this, but I’d need to know more about your business to be sure. I’d recommend you start by making your emails the logical extension of your podcast with statements like "If you like my podcast content, you’ll love my emails because....". A version of this should be in every single one of your CTAs.
If you want to explore the idea of a lead magnet, we can go down that road too.
How often should I email my list?
This is another one that’s too specific to you and your audience for a definite answer, but a benchmark of once a week won't hurt. However, emailing less is leaving money on the table.
If you’re worried about the time commitment that email marketing represents, that’s why you get an email expert to do it for you.
Why should I work with you?
You should work with me if you care about the experience that you’re giving your audience. I join your podcast content to your emails to make the whole process feel seamless and personal for every subscriber.
If you love your podcast, your audience and your business but want your sales strategy to be more cohesive and to earn you money in line with the effort you're putting in, work with me.
You can talk it out by booking a free Connection Call with me.
Can I get AI to write my emails for me?
Sure, if you want a low-effort email list. But low effort gets low results. AI doesn't truly understand your business or your audience; it’s just making a prediction of how you would email your audience based on a pattern of how other businesses email their audience.
If you value that personalised, authentic connection you built with your community, you should honour it by keeping the bulk of the work human-to-human, not bot-to-human
I’m interested but still have questions. Where do I go from here?
I love curious people! How about a free call with me to explore your thoughts?
Doing what you've done before will get the results that it got you before. And in the meantime, your audience is looking for your solution to their problem somewhere else.
If you want to change that, you need to change the way you talk to your audience.
Let's talk about how I can help you.
